Our Lady of Prompt Succor

Our Lady of Prompt Succor

In New Orleans, we ask for Our Lady of Prompt Succor’s intercession at just about every Sunday Mass. She’s the patroness of Louisiana, and we turn to her especially during hurricane season to intercede for our protection and recovery.

-I gave the painting a starry background to recall one of the eucatastrophic effects in the days after a storm: a clear, beautiful view of the night sky. Power outages are miserable in the Louisiana heat, but in the dark nights after the chaos of a hurricane, the stars look more constant than ever.

-I wove a golden fleur-de-lis at the top of the painting as a nod to Louisiana’s French culture.

-The regal, serene expressions of Our Lady and the Child Jesus are a reminder that Christ’s peace triumphs in the midst of the chaotic storms in life.

Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us!
